A 19th century wood "former" or "pattern" as used in foundry sand casting.
It is in the form of a lathe head stock, and has been fitted with a brass horizontal lamp, giving it a very "industrial " decorative look.
Measuring 22 inches wide, 9 inches deep, and a maximum of 23 inches high, the wiring is tested to current regulations.
