binoculars lemaire paris

Item Ref

A pair of Binoculars made by Lemaire of Paris ( est c.1850 ).
This pattern was commonly used by both sides during the American Civil War.
These probably date from the early 1900’s and appear to have been appropriated by the British services, hence the scratched “broad arrow” mark.
Interestingly they also have a dedication “ SINDHIA’S GIFT” which suggests they were used during WWI and had some connection to India’s participation in that conflict.
Measurements in listing refer to their ‘original’ case.
Advertised price includes packing and postage within mainland U.K.
