The condition is excellent, having been well cared for by former owners and is shown here in best showroom condition. We have simply lightly refurbished and wax polished it to enhance the wonderful rich antique patina and to make sure everything is working correctly.
The bureau is veneered in Rosewood on solid Oak in typical French style and embellished with a number of ormolu mounts, fittings and mouldings. Pulling out the front drawer will raise the painted cylinder section and reveal an original leather writing surface. Behind this are drawers and stationary areas. All the drawers and moving surfaces run very smoothly and the front drawer is fitted with an original working key.
The cylinder is beautifully hand painted, capturing a romantic scene from an earlier age of ladies being serenaded. An absolutely delightful compact antique writing bureau, ready to be placed in the home.
